LunaFest | 48 Hour Film Project | Collaborations
COLLABORATIONS:
Morning Star Rising (Youth Empowerment Program): Reel Women, in cooperation with Fulmore Middle School, presents workshops on various aspects of the film and video industries to teenage girls and sponsors MSR participants as interns in the Reel Women office.
October 8, 2003: Reel Women Board Member Alison Macor produced the MSR workshop. The event featured women filmmakers and other film business professionals. Ellen Spiro, documentary filmmaker and UT Instructor, Kat Candler, filmmaker (cicadas), Reel Women Board Member Beth Sepko, owner of Beth Sepko Casting & Third Coast Extras and Cynthia Huerta McKown, actress/writer.
The Austin Children's Museum: Reel Women makes presentations to children aged 5-12 and provides them with hands-on experience in creating film and video.
September 13, 2003: "PRESS 'RECORD': YOUR AUDIO JOURNAL" Held in conjunction with the exhibit "In My Family/En Mi Familia", this hands-on workshop offers basic interview techniques and audio skills to youths aged 12-15. Instructor and Reel Women member Jenn Garrison has worked in radio since 1989 and has also been involved in the "making" side of media literacy. Jenn currently teaches radio and audio courses at UT-Austin, deejays at 107.1 KGSR, and is continuing her study and practice of filmmaking in UT-Austin's RTF MFA program. Reel Women Board Member Alison Macor produced this event.
Cinemakids: Reel Women organizes screening of locally produced work in collaboration with Cinemakids. This year's event was held at the Austin Children's Museum, November 8, 2003.
GENaustin: Reel Women cosponsors local appearances by renown speakers on women-related issues.
September 17, 2003: Reel Women and GENaustin cosponsored a lecture and screening by Jean Kilbourne. Ed.D. Dr. Kilbourne, best known for her award-winning documentaries Pack of Lies, Slim Hopes, and Killing Us Softly, addressed the tobacco industry's marketing to young women.
