Meetings | "Updates" Newsletters | Crew Book and Casting Book

MEETINGS:

  • Located at AUSTIN FILMWORKS, 701 Tillery, Suite 7-A. (however, the location DOES change. Announcements are made in Updates or contact the office at reelwomen@reelwomen.org to verify).
  • Held at 7:00pm the third Wednesday of each month.
  • Networking starts at 6:45 pm; Meetings adjourn around 9:00 pm.
  • Free and open to the general public. All are welcome (female and male) to attend!

Starting January 2003, Reel Women began taping meetings and workshops to add to our reference library. Contact us (480-9291 or reelwmen@texas.net) for more information.

February:
“Meet the REEL WOMEN Board and the Advisory Board”. Also speaking is Bob Hudgins, Director of the Texas Film Commission, and Craig Berlin, Treasurer of the Texas Motion Picture Association.

Speakers: Actress Dana Wheeler-Nicholson (Friday Night Lights, Fletch, Tombstone, Sex and the City) and writer/director Alex Smith.

Speaker: Declan O-Dwyer, Director and Bill Boyes, Producer, of the BBC Series Wire in the Blood. Annual Script Competition announced!

2006 MEETINGS:

January:
Steve Mims of Austin Filmworks presents the trailer for his new film and speaks about how he will use the trailer and how to pitch the film for fundraising.

February:
Speaker is Bob Hudgins, the new director of the Texas Film Commission.

March:
Director Andrew Shapter, writer Joel Rasmussen and producer Lisa McWilliams speak about their feature documentary, Before the Music Dies, which played at the South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival.

April:
Connie Wodlinger and Jacqueline Renee of ME-Television present the mission and introduce the staff of this new broadcast facility.

May:
Austin filmmakers Mari Marchbanks and Vicky Boone, producers of the award-winning feature film, Fall to Grace, talk about their film from its first inception to its distribution.

June:
Speakers are Jeff Balis (producer of two seasons of HBO’s Project Greenlight) and Rhoades Rader (Executive Producer of Dodgeball: A Love Story), producers of Kabluey, a feature shooting in Austin.

July:
Screenwriter Suzanne Weinert, former head of Julia Roberts’ Shoelace Productions, talks about her career and “the business”.

August:
A free screening of all 24 films from the 48 Hour Film Project.

September:
Chris Hyams, owner B Side Entertainment talks about new opportunities in distribution for shorts, documentaries, independent films.

October:
Screenwriter Jill Chamberlain speaks about her writing career, process and technique.

November:
Speaker is Nan Bernstein, producer of Friday Night Lights, an NBC-TV series being filmed in Austin and the surrounding area.

December:
Big holiday party at Hi-Lo. DJ, silent auction, raffle, networking, costume/personal presentation awards. Co-sponsored by The Alliance, made up of Casting Directors, Acting Coaches and Talent Agents.
