THE FIRST MONDAY MIX:

Introduced in July 2002, The First Monday Mix gives Reel Women members and others an opportunity to meet each other, find collaborators and talk about past, current and future projects, as well as life as a filmmaker or wannabe in Austin and other places. For those who want to learn more about Reel Women, this is a very casual way to meet some of the members and Board Members. For the "corps group" it is also a chance to stay connected if they miss a meeting and start to experience "support withdrawals"!

"The First Monday Mix" is held at Opal Divine's Freehouse (at West 6th and Rio Grande) from 6 to 8 pm and is announced in the Updates newsletter.

CO-SPONSORED EVENTS:

Reel Women pairs regularly with other Austin (and Austin-area) film associations such as the Austin Film Society, the Austin Film Festival, Cine Las Americas, Motion Media Arts Center, Cinematexas/Cinemakids, the Austin Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and others to co-sponsor events and to promote each other's activities in support of the film community at large. This synergy provides numerous opportunities to network with like-minded individuals outside of the Reel Women group.

Reel Women participated in the SouthWest Art, Film, Television Conference & HD Expo (SWAT) early June 2004 with a booth in the Trade Show and we made some great contacts. It was especially nice to meet some ladies from Women in Film / Dallas and TAFTP (Texas Association of Film & Tape Professionals), representatives from the New Mexico Film Commission, and the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce.

Reel Women was the local sponsor for "THE ART OF FUNDING YOUR FILM" held June 2004. Carole Dean, executor of the Roy W. Dean Grant Foundation, one of the largest, most prestigious grants in the U.S., returned to Austin to conduct this workshop to teach how and when to apply for film grants and master the approach to corporations for donations.

For five Tuesday nights in April and May 2002 we co-sponsored the "Ladies of the Silent Screen" series with the Austin Film Society.

In March 2002 we sponsored the South by Southwest Festival screening of Bike Like U Mean It by former Reel Women Board Member Susan Kirr and Rusty Martin. Reel Women also sponsored Salsa Caliente by Dallas filmmaker Claudia Loewenstein as part of the Cine Las Americas Film Festival.

In October 2001 we sponsored the Austin Film Festival's screening of Borderland, written by former Reel Women Board Member Sidney Brammer.

In 1997 and 1998, Reel Women organized three screenings of films by local and national women filmmakers. These events were well attended and gave emerging filmmakers the opportunity to share their work with diverse audiences.
